Due to violent threats, the anti-pornographic laws and lack of police protection, most LGBT events in Indonesia are cancelled last minute. We have to lead by example in Western countries where our free speech is protected and hopefully there will be a flow on effect.

The best thing you can do is to be yourself and show you are no different to anyone else. This used to be gayer many moons ago when there was a cafe here proudly waving a rainbow flag. I think it is a pity people listen to or read the shock horror stories from Aceh and without any careful thought or research apply it to Bali as well. So unless your parents, your partner or your children if you have any make a complaint with Indonesian police, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.
